Specifically, the kids will learn about levers, pulleys, gear trains, inclined planes, wheel and axles whilst working in pairs or threes. What’s it like? The children really enjoy learning to use tools on Meccano; often they have never held a spanner before. Teamwork is the key here as the task can be broken up into smaller components by each child and then put together later. Generally we have the kids all construct the same moving machine as it represents a fun challenge as a race to the finish. There is an opportunity of course for kids to create their own machine or follow the directions for a different apparatus if they wish however. Best run in a large open space. Extend them! We’ve had many vacation care centers use this workshop as part of a larger engineering day. In this case it’s worth considering having run an egg drop challenge, Lego robotics or similar to produce an awesome activity day the kids will love!
