Global Teacher Top 50 Finalist Ian Preston drops by to chat about his love of STEM education and his work at the NSW Virtual STEM Academy and the Murrumbidgee Academy of STEM Excellence.
About Ian Preston’s work
Ian’s work is wide and varied. At the Murrumbidgee Academy of STEM Excellence he provides STEM opportunities for students in his local learning communities. This includes the Aeronautical Velocity Challenge, F1 in Schools, Science and Engineering Challenge, STEM lending ending library enhance staff capacity and confidence to deliver STEM & much more
As the Deputy Principal at the NSW Virtual STEM Academy he provides STEM
enrichment for rural, regional and remote students, with particular emphasis on female and Indigenous students in collaboration with the QLD Virtual STEM Academy with Wendy Bode and John Jose.
He is part of the Australian Virtual STEM Academy which is a collaboration between QVSA, NSWVSA and NTVSA, with funding from Schools Plus and the St George Foundation
Through the iSTEM syllabus he has been involved in contributing by writing and reviewing topics and & materials
He was a contributor to the Australian Virtual Astronaut Challenge in its first year and continues to be so today. This STEM challenge is available globally.
Through the iTeachSTEM website, he is involved in its implementation including the sharing of resources
Ian is a Global Teacher Ambassador and is about to deliver an online PL session on STEM for Malaysian teachers. This will be on their nationwide PL channel designed to continue staff professional development
