Description
Because the doodletop draws where it moves, it is very handy for investigating the physics of spinning tops! Spinning tops help physicists understand how torque & angular momentum apply to spinning objects. As the spinning top slows down, they begin to wobble and the doodletop captures this motion with pictures on your paper!
The doodletop is part of a range of science toys, kits & teaching aids for teaching about forces for schools and in the home.
Use for engaging science at home or in the classroom!
Teaching ideas with a doodletop
- Try spinning the top at different angles and speeds to produce different patterns.
- What happens when you add weight such as blu-tac or plasticine to the top? Does this affect the top’s motion and patterns?
- Try spinning the top on different media – wax paper, plastic wrap, wood and more. Does the difference in friction slow down the top?
- Find examples of spinning tops that are not toys.

I just wanted to pass on how much the staff and students really enjoyed it and how perfect it was to launch our science week activities. The students were enthralled, educated and entertained – a perfect trifecta!
-Caulfield Grammar School – Big Science Big FunThanks so much for presenting at our school on Monday. Our students enjoyed the show.
-Greenvale Primary School – Big Science Big FunFizzics Education curated a thoughtful and hands-on experience for the children, incorporating practical, skill-based learning activities and followed by a science presentation at the end of the event involving liquid nitrogen. This was delivered safely and effectively, capturing both the children and the parents for the duration of the presentation.
-Macquarie Bank – Family Fun DayFizzics Education ran a show today at our school and it was wonderful. He was a great facilitator and the show was age appropriate and well done.
