Teaching ideas for the Expand-A-Ball Toy
The Expand-A-Ball is a visual support tool to aid calm breathing. The child can use it to represent their lungs by mirroring the expansion and contraction of them as they breathe. So, as the child breathes in and their lungs expand, they pull the ball out to expand it. Then, when the child breathes out and their lungs contract, they push the ball in to contract it. This action assists the child with self-regulation through visual and tactile stimulation and aids with body awareness and cognitive shifting of attention.
Beyond its therapeutic uses, the Expand-A-Ball is also an engaging and fun toy for the child to use. Because it is made from durable plastic, the child can throw it, catch it, roll it or spin it. If the child wants to get really creative with how they play with this toy, we recommend they use YouTube to look up some tips and tricks for them to try! We do, however, recommend adult supervision while the child is playing with this toy.
