Description
Got to love a Newton’s Cradle!
A classic demonstration of equal and opposite reactions! This small desk version of a Newton’s Cradle is a homage to the great man himself.
This small Newton’s cradle is part of a range of science toys, kits & teaching aids for teaching about forces & movement for schools and in the home. Use for engaging science at home or in the classroom!
Teaching ideas for a Newton’s Cradle
- Have students use this model as a scaffold to creating a larger version! We’ve even seen Newton’s cradles that have been constructed with bowling balls (!). If you do decide to make the balls large, make sure that it has appropriate guarding such as a perspex screen to protect body parts from being pinched or hurt between the large masses swinging and hitting together.
- Try getting students to create a modified design, whereby balls roll along a U-shaped track.
- Students can research Sir Isaac Newton and produce a poster or project that depicts one of his many discoveries.
- Have students list and describe the 3 Laws of Motion.
- Investigate forces using our free science experiments on movement

I just wanted to pass on how much the staff and students really enjoyed it and how perfect it was to launch our science week activities. The students were enthralled, educated and entertained – a perfect trifecta!
-Caulfield Grammar School – Big Science Big FunThanks so much for presenting at our school on Monday. Our students enjoyed the show.
-Greenvale Primary School – Big Science Big FunFizzics Education curated a thoughtful and hands-on experience for the children, incorporating practical, skill-based learning activities and followed by a science presentation at the end of the event involving liquid nitrogen. This was delivered safely and effectively, capturing both the children and the parents for the duration of the presentation.
-Macquarie Bank – Family Fun DayFizzics Education ran a show today at our school and it was wonderful. He was a great facilitator and the show was age appropriate and well done.
