Although not originating from Australia, the Dingo is still very much a part of the Australian vocabulary as Australia’s wild dog. The dingo is found throughout south-east Asia. The scientific name for a dingo is Canis lupis.
Teaching ideas for a dingo replica
- Have students research the biology of a dingo and plot the distribution timelines of when dingos entered Australia.
- Hold a student debate… is the dingo really a native animal of Australia?
- Compare dingoes with other Australian carnivorous animals.
- Create a mural of dingos on your school wall.
- Help students create a cladistic tree which highlights the relationship of dingos to other dogs.
- Discuss safety when camping near dingo populations.
- Learn more about wild dogs populations (eg. the spotted dog in Africa).

This was delivered safely and effectively, capturing both the children and the parents for the duration of the presentation.
